“A hospital patient's craving for a cigarette killed him - when he accidentally set himself on fire while being treated in hospital for a skin condition.
Mechanic Philip Hoe, 60, nipped onto a fire escape stairwell for a secret smoke minutes after a nurse had applied a moisturiser to most of his body to soothe his dry skin. But the paraffin-based mixture, similar to Vaseline, ignited and Mr Hoe was engulfed in flames outside the dermatology ward at no-smoking Doncaster Royal Infirmary.
